Vertical Advanced Engineering is expanding and looking for a Stress Engineer to help design an allelectric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft as well as to assist in the design and development of motorsport, aerospace, automotive and marine vehicle technologies. You will work from initial scheme to component launch incorporating knowledge in surfacing, composite structures, manufacturing support, including jigs and fixtures to aid smooth build and assembly of components. You will also be expected to lead and mentor junior members of staff and aid their progression. The ideal candidate will be skilled in stress analysis of full vehicle or component systems using FEA and hand calcs.

Working within the Stress team, this position will involve;
• Performing structural analysis using FEA and hand calcs on composite and metallic parts and assemblies
• Optimisation of design for mass reduction
• Contribute to the design process from a structural perspective
• Specify and lead structural testing and certification
• Contribute to process and methods development for the department
• Detailed reporting of all work
• Comply with company quality standards AS 9100D (training will be provided)
• Lead and mentor junior designers to ensure company standards are achieved

Basic Qualifications/Experience;
• Educated to degree level or higher in Aeronautical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• At least 3 years of experience working in a relevant industrial environment
• A sound knowledge of commercial analysis packages
• Knowledge of metallic and composite materials
• Passionate about technology and thrive in a dynamic environment where flexibility is essential
• Ability to communicate complex ideas so that they are understood by different audiences
• Fluent in spoken and written English language

Preferred Qualifications/Experience;
• Experience working with motorsport or aerospace composite structures
• Awareness of processes and requirements relevant to the certification of aircraft
• Proficient user of Hypermesh and Optistruct
• Experience of materials qualification programmes
• Experience with aerospace certification process
• Commitment to professional development
